Things we said should get looked up before the next session:
  1. What is the formula for calculating the serum osmolality?
  2. What is the measured osmolality (in relation to the calculated osmolality)?
  3. What is the osmolar gap? What is normal?
  4. What is the formula for the anion gap? What is normal?
  5. What is the significance of an increased anion gap?
  6. What is the significance of an increased osmoal gap?
  7. How is the presence of both an elevated anion gap and elevated osmolal gap helpful in making a diagnosis?
  8. What substances can contribute to an increased osmolar gap?
  9. What substances are associated with a high anion gap metabolic acidosis?

Other things:

1. Finish the worksheet from this week.

2. Complete the worksheet for chapters 61-75.
Also, the book I mentioned today about ventilator waveforms:
Apparently it is out of print and has increased significantly in price. We do have a hospital copy – please treat it kindly.
