Goals of resuscitation

Ultimately the endpoint targets of resuscitation are a normally-perfused patient. While target numbers are provided in the chart below these will not be ideal for every single animal. For example if the target MAP is achieved but the heart rate is high, pulses bounding, and capillary refill prolonged additional resuscitation is still necessary. Other times certain abnormalities will be ‘normal’ – for example patients with severe burns will have much higher ‘normal’ heart rate early in their course. Think of these as guidelines and use good judgement when applying the targets listed below.
